I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Garner Magnet High School

I have been collecting $$ for Cancer research since I was 12 years old, it is that important to me. I have gone door to door as a child, been part of a team raising money for a child sick with cancer, donated on a regular basis through Apheresis, and donated to St. Jude's. I am now going the extra step to show that I can talk the talk and walk the walk. My head will be shaved along with the rest of my group from Garner Magnet High School on MARCH 2ND, 2013!! [This day just happens to be my 58th birthday so this will be one of the most unique and exciting birthday's for me]. Help me out with a birthday gift by donating $$ to my particular page, which is part of the GMHS site but I have "THROWN DOWN THE GAUNTLET" to the other male teachers telling them that I would raise more money than they have all together, PLEASE HELP ME IN THIS ENDEAVOR but please make sure your donation is made in my name. :).

My own personal family [on both parent's side] have been racked with cancer since I was a child. For our family it seems like a common cold, you are just waiting to see what type you are going to get [we have seen it all] and what age. When one of my friends [Sue Randell] son Matt Randell came down with cancer at 10 years old, it was not only devastating for him/his family but for all of us who watched and supported but eventually couldn't do anything. I was the Chairperson of a group of caring friends who raised money to help so Matty could have 8 different surgeries [I believe that is correct] and a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately at 12 1/2 years of age Matt died from his cancer. He showed such character and strength during his fight. Matty NEVER once gave up and neither shall we. You don't have to give $100, $50, [but if you can it will be appreciated] etc. whatever you can give as often as you can give will be appreciated. You might have some extra money from month to month or week to week that you can put aside and donate. You will be surprised how just saving loose change until March 2nd will add up to a pretty great amount. If you give once and find a few extra dollars another month, feel free to give again.

I am sure we all know someone who has had an infant/child/teen/young adult who has had to go through this. I know that one of my daughter's bridesmaids has a little girl who came down with cancer when she was just 2. I am so grateful at this point my immediate family members including my grandsons are healthy. Look around at your own family, your friend's families, little ones walking by you in the stores, etc. and know that at any time their lives can change and we can be the ones to help save them. We don't need an award but just know that we did something that might help when it is needed. We all want to see a cure.

Although we don't know the particular children this money will go to we know that we need to be able to help and this is one way we can. I truly believe that we are here on earth to be our brother's keeper, that it DOES take a village to raise a child and in the Golden Rule "One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself." Let's all put our best foot forward for this event and make it one for the record books [in the amount of $$ raised].

Please feel free to copy and paste my information on your FB page or in an email to a group of co-workers or friends and explain that you really know this CRAZY LADY and she will follow through on this. Ask them to send it on to their friends so we can get as many groups, neighborhoods, families, book clubs, youth groups, etc. [whatever and whoever you can think of] to support and sponsor me in this endeavor. You may not want to get your head shaved but YOU CAN support this cause by making it your cause and having a group you know be raising money to donate in my name. Please accept this challenge from me to be a part of the fund raising. Please make plans if you live close enough to be there March 2nd as my head is shaved!! I plan not to wear a wig but hopefully have an artist friend use some semi-permanent ink and draw the St. Baldrick's logo and donation site on my bald head so I will be a walking billboard until my hair grows back.

I've answered the call to be a hero and you will be a hero also by supporting me! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
