It's that time of the year. No no..not the time of the year that I tell you the Cubs are definitely going to win the world series (now that we have a new owner). No no...not the time I tell you I saved a lot of money by switching to GEICO. It's the time of the year that I talk about St. Baldrick's and shaving my mop for childhood cancer research. This will be my 4th year going under the clippers (I'll also lose the goatee and the winter beard as well).
For those that are going "St. Bald..what" - St. Baldrick's raises money for childhood cancer research thru donations made to see a friend, family, facebook friend, my space friend, co-worker, etc shave their head. Unfortunate children who have cancer lose their hair going thru chemotherapy and we want to show some solidarity. I refer to it as the "couch potato fund raising event"...I don't have to run a marathon, do a walk, or dress up in a fancy tux. I just have to goto a bar...drink beer and get my head shaved. Last year I organized a first year event in Schaumburg and we shaved over 160 heads (men, women, and children) and raised over 177,000. Overall, St. Baldrick's raised nearly $17.5 million in 2008 alone. Since it's inception, the foundation has raised over $50 million.
This year, I realize that the economy sucks and everyone is watching their nickels and dimes even closer than in years past. If you can find in your heart a donation, , , etc....whatever it is that you can afford, it's appreciated. The great part is that donations can be made online and you will get an email for tax purposes as each donation is tax deductible. With tax season coming up, if you are in that situation wishing you had made more donations in 2008...here is your way to kick off your 2009 donations in style.
If you would like to make a donation on behalf of my soon to be shiny dome...click my mug and make the magic happen.
Either way...I do want to invite you out to John Barleycorn in Schaumburg on Friday March 6th (happy hour time) to join in the craziness. If you do come...we don't require you to shave your head...you are just required to have a good time (which is a guarantee). We have raffles, silent auctions, beer, food, music, etc.
