As those of you who know me, you know that I don’t have much hair left, so after walking out of the bar last year with the cool breeze on my scalp, I realized this was a good look – not really, but kept it anyway. My wife and I have drafted a new shavee – my 4 year old daughter.
Before you say to yourself – why would they force her to shave her head? We aren’t. My wife is a volunteer for Make-A-Wish and our daughter has always inquired about what Mommy does with the sick children. One day, my wife explained to her that these children are ill and some of them can’t do some of the fortunate things we can do, we try to help them in any way. She then began to explain that some of them were so sick, that they do not have any hair. With a puzzled look in her eye, our daughter inquired “Why not?” After trying to explain to her the best we could without going into much detail for her 4 year old brain, my wife asked if she would like to donate her hair to them and help them like Daddy did by shaving her head. Although she wasn’t up for shaving, she did say she would donate her hair through Locks of Love.
So, we are heading back down but this time to watch our daughter do something special for brave little girls who are battling this disease. Since then, our daughter has requested that I once again sit in the chair - this time with her next to me. How can I say "No?"
I am reaching out to you to ask for your support in helping us raise money not only for St. Baldrick’s to find a cure with kids with cancer, but also to raise funds for the Locks of Love program. If you are considering, please donate to Mary Elizabeth M.'s page found at: http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/donorlist/530509/2012
