Howdy Cancer Fighters!!

This will be my 5th time participating in a St. Baldrick's event, the first with the AFD. For those of you that have already heard our story, you understand why I am joining a bunch of fire fighters. For those of you that don't....

When my younger brother, Billy, was 10, he was diagnosed with leukemia. On January 26th of this year, we celebrated 22 years of him being cancer free. Two years ago, we celebrated his marriage. This year, another miracle blesses our family as Billy and his wife, Lindsay, expect their first child. Something we were all told would never happen because of all the treatments he endured. Additionally, the little kid that to this day remains my biggest hero, dedicates his life to helping and saving others as a full time fire fighter in the town we grew up in.

My sister, dad, uncles, cousins and brother in law have all served or are serving as EMT's and fire fighters. So the connection is far to great for me not to join the boys at the Auburn Fire Department in their first year of joining St. Baldrick's.

All told, I will continue to shave my head with St. Baldrick's anywhere, anytime if the end result is more families being able to celebrate a young life saved from big bad cancer and watching them grow up to be heros like my little brother.

Cheers!
Schulzy
