St. Baldrick's is back and this year I am packing a mullet!!! I have decided to participate as a shavee (while I still can) once again in this remarkable charity event. Last year I received many generous donations for this unbelieveable cause and I am hoping that you all will support me again. The money raised will go directly to fund the best research for kids with cancer.
This year I am helping raise money in honor of Sarah Hamideh. Sarah is a 15 year old sophomore at Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL. I became aware of Sarah's story through my wife Patrice, who is Sarah's Guidance Counselor at Lake Park High School. Sarah was recently diagnosed with Leukemia over Christmas break and is currently receiving chemotherapy treatments. Sarah's story inspired me to help Sarah and other kids with cancer in any way I could.
I am also honoring two of my close friends, whose fathers have been battling cancer over the past few years. Paul Lamb was diagnosed with brain cancer over four years ago. Paul is the father of one of my closest friends PJ, and always opened his home to me while growing up. He also named me "Red", one of the only nicknames to ever stick with me. In addition to Paul Lamb, I would also like to honor Dave DeLay, who is the father of a close friend and colleague of mine, Jordan DeLay. Dave was diagnosed with cancer this past year and has been battling tough for the past several months. I do not know Dave personally, but knowing the relationship that he has with Jordan, and seeing how Jordan has turned out as a role model for young people captures the spirit of Dave DeLay.
Please join me in honoring Sarah, Paul, and Dave in their fights with cancer. I know that each of them will appreciate your generous donations over the next month. I know my wife will also be thankful as she was recently quoted as saying, "Your hair is out of control!"
