I do not consider myself a hero for participating in this event. This cause takes me back to a time when I did know a hero. His name was Scott Petersen and He was my hero. In 1975, I had the honor of calling him my boyfriend. He was the biggest, strongest young man in the school. Everyone knew him & many called him friend. He was on the wrestling team & rode a motorcyle. One moment his life was progressing wonderfully & the next moment he was felled by a childhood cancer..Leukemia. It was the biggest ugliest thing that could happen to a healthy strong young man. I watched him fight & struggle against this monster for 8 months. He fought valiantly through the chemo treatments and would rally only to be taken down again. He never lost his spirit or his inner strength. He died at the age of 15. I miss him still to this day as i know many do..I will have my head shaved in his honor. I do this with the hope that together we can find a cure. Please my friends....give to this cause. Lets do it for Scott & all the children who battle this everyday.
I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
