I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

Dear Family and Friends, If you have seen me lately, I have been looking a bit shaggy. I have been growing my hair out since July this last year (about 9 months!), and I have decided that I wanted to grow my hair out for a reason. As many of you may know my Grandma passed away from ovarian cancer a year and a half ago, and since then I have been trying to think of ways that I could help raise awareness and be a greater help to the very serious and pertinent threat that is cancer. The time has now come for me to put my lovely long locks to a good use, and I am using them as a means to raise some money for a cause much bigger than myself. I am participating in an event called St. Baldrick's, which participants put a price on their head to raise money for cancer research for children. I feel very strongly about this event and cause, because so many children are hit with this devastating news when they have so much potential and life ahead of them. It is about time that I do what I can do for this noble cause, so I have decided to become a shavee for the event that is being held on April 26th at UW-La Crosse. I'm asking you - friends and family members - to donate what you can to my shaving. I know that we are all strapped for cash; I'm not asking for huge donations (although warmly welcomed), but just that you would donate something. If everyone can pitch in (whatever the amount is) I hope that we can meet my $500 fundraising goal, and make a difference for someone. Thanks very much for your time and consideration, and I hope that we can raise awareness and money for a cause much bigger than us. I hope to see all of you soon, and I wouldn't be sending out this letter if this wasn't a cause that I felt strongly about. Much love, Jerome Robinson ps - my hair is about 7-8 inches on the top, so even though it is not long enough to make a wig for locks for love, I have read that they can use my hair to sell and use the proceeds for cancer research too!
