Yesterday I shaved my head to help raise money and awareness for kids with cancer. About 20 years ago my niece, Rachel Kulakowski, had leukemia. She was not expected to survive, yet she bravely persevered. We watched as her beautiful brown curls fell out one by one yet her smile remained. No cancer or chemo could diminish her strength, courage or faith. I was a grown man at the time and learned more from that little girl and her parents than all the teachers I had ever had. I am so proud and grateful to be able to tell you that Rachel is now a beautiful college student about to graduate and become a teacher herself.
For all the Rachels in the world, past, present and future, I shaved my head. Actually, my friend and fellow "Baldrick," Timmy Bayard, shaved it. It's not pretty but it's "cool." If you could make any donation, large or small, to the St. Baldrick's Foundation, it would go to great use. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Thank you! All you have to do is click "Make a donation" to give online, or donate by phone or mail.
