Many people have asked Brian and I why we do St.Baldrick's .. it seems as though someone else is speaking for me when I answer that the reason we do what we do is because we lost our daughter Kyra to a brain tumor when she was 2 and a half years old.
There are no words to describe so much of what happened in our journey.
St.Baldrick's forced us to face our own story many times, it forced me to say my daughters name. I had struggled to say the name 'Kyra' for many years and I still find it hard, sometimes it leaves me speechless. But our story has brought us closer to other people who have their own stories and who understand and show compassion in their eyes. To all parents like us, it is a look we know and slowly we learn to accept it and allow it to help us heal.
We were blessed with our older son Ross and daughter Branagh who was born after Kyra passed away. They are our reason for being.
Branagh will be shaving her beautiful long blond hair this year and trying to raise a lot of money and awareness. Thanks to Alexander Dawson School and their support to host an event this year. Branagh has always felt a strong connection to her sister Kyra and I think this is her way of showing her love for her sister and doing something very unselfish and symbolic for all children who face cancer. For a young girl of 13 this is extraordinary, but of course I am biased.
Thank you to everyone who takes part, we all know its a day we get to give something away and yet get so much back.
God Bless all children who face illness, we hope our efforts will make it better.
Be it known to all that this participant has dedicated at least fifteen years of service to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation helping kids with cancer throughout all the land.
St. Baldrick’s Honored Kids
Kids with cancer are our reason for it all. They’re the inspiration behind our event and the reason we’re helping fund childhood cancer research. We believe all kids should be able to grow up and turn their dreams into realities. Join our event or make a donation, and click the photos below to read their incredible stories.
St. Baldrick’s started as a grassroots effort 25 years ago, driven by people who believe in helping kids with cancer.
