I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave

It's just hair but it makes an impression when it is gone! Makes you think doesn't it? Maybe a little curious? Cancer is not prejudice, it has no feelings, no fear and it has no unconditional love for you or your family. Walking into an Oncology Unit for children is a harsh reality! A visual of the magnitude of childhood cancers. There are so many different forms and there is no "cure"! Research is no doubt making progress but "treatment" is not enough. Many children will not physically survive their battle. But some children will survive and sometimes at a price. Side effects, secondary cancers, developmental and learning difficulties, emotional issues, and reproductive issues. The "late effects". My son, Kellen, at the tender yet rambunctious age of 3 was diagnosed with Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After weeks of random phone calls to the doctor due to obvious fatigue, a random high temp, diminishing diet, odd bruises, and a wound that wouldn't heal my phone calls changed. They included pale, thin, dark sunken circles around his eyes and reports of tummy aches, leg pain, and feeling cold during a summer heat wave. One frantic and persistent call meant someone was finally going to listening to me. That day was the day I heard words no parent should hear "your son has cancer". To no surprise Kellen is a Warrior and he is "STRONGER than leukemia"! Two years ago, Kellen now 5, like many many other children didn't get to make a choice about his life. He didn't choose to be so weak he needed carried. He didn't choose to be poked frequently for treatment and sometimes take handfuls of pills a night. And he definitely isn't choosing to let Leukemia win this battle. Kellen is a fighter! So in his honor and for all children fighting cancer I will help fight to find a CURE and spread AWARENESS. Kellen is my hero, my strength, my world and no family should hear those dreaded words. Let's "Conquer Kids' Cancer"! Please make a donation to put a smile on a child face and hope in a parents heart. May we throw away these cancer shoes for good!
