I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics

Every 3 1⁄2 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. Every 4 hours a child loses their life. If that doesn't get your attention, then I'm hoping the fact that I'm willing to shave my head for this great cause will! I learned about this organization from a therapist at my local hospital last year (after the event). Since that time, I made a promise that I would get involved the following year. Some of you knew Andy Horner. He was one of my best childhood friends that battled cancer, then the complications of cancer treatment his entire life. I learned a lot from Andy and continue to do so even after his death. He continues to be with me and is my reason for wanting to find a cure for childhood cancer. I'm shaving my head to spread awareness about this wonderful cause, and to motivate some of you to donate what you can. Please remember that every dollar counts, so whatever you can spare will be put to great use! I've listed some statistics below that I wanted to share with all of you: 1) Currently, childhood cancer research funding accounts for less than 3% of all cancer research funding allotted by the federal government. 2) Two thirds of childhood cancer patients will have a long lasting chronic condition from the very treatment that helped save their lives. 3) Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the United States. 4) One in five children diagnosed with cancer will not survive.
