25 years ago, my cousins son, Donald Lundy Bramlett, Lovely called Lundy, by those nearsest to him, died from leukemia. He was just 17. I joined my family for the funeral in n. Carolina. He looked so frail, a fraction of his age. I knew he had spent so much of his short life not being able to join the other kids. He had missed so much of his childhood & lost his life way to soon..
A few years ago a friends daughter, Amanda, was diagnosed with Leukemia. I thought of my cousin & prayed so hard. Happily today, she is a healthly young girl with a wonderful smile. I know she too faught so hard & bravely & must have missed so much doing so.
For my family, co-workers, & friends, most of you know I have an Autistic daughter who seems to drain every ounce of energy from me & my wife. Not to mention every bit of time. So, I'm not the type of guy that can go door to door for a cause, or run a marathon. I do believe, I can, at least sit for a few minutes and let some1 else do the work. Never let it be said I didn't do the least I could do.
For my neighbors who haven't figured it out yet, I'm Tristan, from Trudy & Tristan Lundy of 9 Audrey st.
So, I'n memory of Lundy, and in honor of Amanda, I've decided to join my friend, Terry Ryan & thousands of others across the nation & have my head shaved to raise awareness & help try and cure childrens cancer, through the St. Baldricks Foundation. Wouldn't it be wonderful if someday we could say There is no such thing as childhood cancer or Leukemia. Hopefully it won't take 25 years.
I know I'll look foolish with no hair, but, I fear, I'll feel like a fool if I haven't raised enough for such a wonderful cause and to have made a difference. So, go to the website, www.stbaldricks.org, or call 1-888-899-BALD & sponsor me. Or even better yet. Take the family & join us at Tommy's Place in Rocky Point on Sat 3/8 at 7pm. They'll be live music &, I'm sure, plenty of laughs.
I have a favorite saying. " Children are our most precious resourse"
I Thank you all,
Tristan Lundy
