I am going to be shaving my head for the 8th time on March 15th!!
**Due to Storm Elsa I rescheduled my shave for Tuesday March 17th at Modern Elegance Salon (thank you Britney for doing this shave for me)**
The reason why I started shaving my head many years ago is because cancer touched my family before I was even born.
My cousin Emma was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 3 a few years before I was born. Her type of Leukemia was rare. She lost all of her hair during the course of her treatment and truly hoped it would grow back purple. As a young child with cancer she struggled with many things due to the treatments she had to take to slow down and try to eradicate the cancer from her body. She had graft verses host disease which attacked her lungs and other parts of her body. She unfortunately passed away when I was 6 weeks old. This year I am choosing not to dye my hair purple like I have for all of my past 7 shaves in her memory but I will wear purple and bright colors for her.
This year I decided that since cancer has once again taken someone I love, I want to shave again.
My Grandpa Lee passed away after a short battle with two different types of cancer, one was of an unknown origin.
I want to raise money to support cancer research so that when children and others are diagnosed with cancer they can find out exactly what type and how to best treat them in a less invasive way.
A challenge among friends 25 years ago has become the largest volunteer movement to Conquer Kids’ Cancer. This year, I’m joining thousands of others to shave my head to raise money for childhood cancer research!
Did you know, 1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. won’t survive? For those who do, more than 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions by the time they are 50.
Each shaved head, every dollar donated, creates a ripple effect of progress for kids with cancer.
Your gift will give kids and their families hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Together, let’s give these kids the lifetime they deserve. Thank you for your support!
