March 14, 2025, is one year to the day that I started my fight against cancer.
In March 2024, two months after my spinal fusion operation, I was experiencing acid reflux, dry heaving and discomfort beyond anything I had in the past. Having Barrett's Esophagus meant I was already seeing a GI doctor twice a year to keep tabs on things. My next appointment wasn't planned until November, but we knew something wasn't right and scheduled an endoscopy for March 14.
During that visit, my doctor spotted something he didn't like: a tumor had grown at the junction between my stomach and my esophagus.
We worked fast to get my care plan in the works, from interviewing oncologists, to choosing chemo and radiation teams, to selecting a thoracic surgeon to perform my esophogectomy.
A lot has happened since diagnosis. Rounds of chemo and radiation, losing weight and sleep, being fearful, being joyful, recovering from a life-changing (and saving) surgery, learning to sleep upright, learning how to eat with only 1/3 of my stomach. But, one year later, I'm cancer free and so thankful for that.
What I went through wasn't easy, and it's not over yet. I am raising funds to help make that journey a little lighter for the children and families going through it.
Thank you for your donation and for being a part of my own healing journey.
