Why am I shaving my head, and why should you care?
A challenge among friends 25 years ago has become the largest volunteer movement to Conquer Kids’ Cancer. This year, I’m joining thousands of others to shave my head to raise money for childhood cancer research!
Unfortunately, I personally know several kids who have dealt with childhood cancers. It is for these kids that I am helping to raise much needed funds as we continue to work towards a cure!
During the first few years that I participated in St. Baldrick's, I had the privilege of meeting neighbors who's child was facing the long battle with neuroblastoma. For years, they spent so much of their time in hospital as the kiddo went through round after round of chemo. At one point, this incredible fighter lost a leg (most likely to complications arising from post-chemo side effects). Not once did they give up, not once did they stop focusing on the cure. Unlike some, this story has an amazing and incredible result...that kiddo is now in remission and currently working on a college degree!
So why the crazy hair color, you might ask? It gives me an opportunity to chat with curious folks and tell them about this amazing and wonderful organization. It is a great ice-breaker as I rummage through their wallets looking for donations (grins). ...and speaking of your wallet, I would be very giddy with excitement if I can add you, dear reader, to my list of donors! Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these kids!!
So when you run into me, let's team up and you can help (through your donations) in this incredibly important fight to find a cure and ensure that no more kids have to deal with cancer!
