I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Super Jake

When you've had a child battle cancer, it changes you. It saddens you. It hardens you. It angers you. It tests you. The relationships you had before the diagnosis, whether it's with your spouse, children, parents, siblings, friends, neighbors or colleagues, are not the same as they once were. You are seen as different because you are different.

How people cope with the change is different for everyone. For some of us, it's channeling that emotional rollercoaster through doing something to help. And it's not about helping your own child but about helping and hopefully preventing other children from suffering and other families from being torn apart.

And that's what Jake's Journey to Find a Cure has been about since 2017, when our then 20-month old, Jake, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. While the most common and treatable form of pediatric cancer, it's also a grueling treatment process. But after 1,220, he took his last dose of chemo on June 2, 2020.

And during that time, Jake's Journey held five head shaving events for St. Baldrick's, starting with just four shavee's in 2017 to more than 30 in 2021, raising more than $210,000 in total.

This June will mark five years since Jake took that last dose, and the best way to celebrate that anniversary is to bring friends, family and colleagues together to honor all of those kids who have battled or are still battling cancer today.

It is our hope that these events will continue to inspire others to take part in this effort to give kids and parents something we all yearn for during these darkest of times...hope.
