What could possibly be more important than saving the life of a child? At our event, some folks will shave their heads – and others like me will keep the hair we have and put our hearts into supporting childhood cancer research. Harley Fetterman is my son. In 2003 at the age of 5, he was diagnose with a non-life threatening brain tumor that caused him to be blind. After several chemotherapy treatments and many brain surgeries, he was done with the brain tumor in 2009. In 2013, he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome most likely caused by one of the chemotherapy drugs he had taken. The only cure was a bone marrow transplant. He died in 2016 at the age of 18 while trying to get the transplant. Harley's story emphasizes why we need more childhood cancer research. He was determined cured from his original tumor because it had not come back after 5 years. But the cure was too harsh and we lost him. This is why we hold this event and honor these kids - to find childhood cancer cures that don't cause other issues. During the pandemic, donations have been down sharply, which is a big deal since the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest non-government supporter of childhood cancer research grants. I want to make sure kids know we care. I want more research to save lives. Please support me with a donation. Thank you!
