Stretch. My word of the year is stretch. This word holds a lot of different meanings for me, but one of the biggest is to stretch my goals further than I think possible in 2020. Last year, I was truly humbled and honored to participate in my first St. Baldrick's event after the sudden passing of my Uncle Gary. I was inspired to take action to help others the way Gary had his whole life. The work the St. Baldrick's Foundation does is so important - helping the smallest and most innocent victims of cancer: children. Fully fueled by a very generous community of family, friends, and strangers I was able to blow past my initial goal of $1,000 within 48 hours. And to my true amazement, we ended up at just shy of $7,000 by shave day. So here we are... one year later and I'm ready to STRETCH my goal - to be fearless and to work my butt off raising awareness about pediatric cancer with the goal of raising $10,000! With your help, I know that we can do this.
* Every day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer.
* 12% of children diagnosed with cancer do not survive.
* Children’s cancer affects all ethnic, gender and socio-economic groups.
* The average age of children diagnosed is six.
* More than 40,000 children undergo treatment for cancer each year.
* 60% of children who survive cancer suffer late-effects, such as infertility, heart failure and secondary cancers.
