I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research
Long ago (11 years), in a slightly different region (I lived in Chesapeake), I was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblasdoma. Over the course of roughly a year I managed to successfully survive that. I have gone from my biggest challenge being surviving my own body turning against me to trying to survive the workload of school (currently pre-IB classes (including 2 years of Spanish packed into 1) plus 2 AP classes). I was lucky enough to survive due to research that was done prior to (and during) my treatment. Heck, I was even part of one of the experimental treatments. This research can be very expensive though. Clinical trials cost millions of dollars to perform and they are what is critical to making sure that a treatment actually works. This does not take into account prior R&D that went towards making the treatment. Childhood cancer is also not one of the cancers (or groups of cancers) that you constantly hear about. Exactly why this is can be up for debate and is likely a combination of factors, but the important thing is that it is not getting as much funding as it probably should. Thus, I request that if you are reading this you make a donation in order to help eliminate the odds of surviving childhood cancer so that they do not have to be beaten.
Be it known to all that this participant has dedicated at least seven years of service to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation helping kids with cancer throughout all the land.
St. Baldrick’s Honored Kids
Kids with cancer are our reason for it all. They’re the inspiration behind our event and the reason we’re helping fund childhood cancer research.
