I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research

I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research

Cancer is one of those things that always seems to happen to other people, until it directly affects you. For most of my life I lived under the impression that cancer, that scary thing I always heard about but never experienced, could never affect me or my family.

In 2015, my twin sister Martha was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that effects bones and soft tissue. After chemo and radiation, there was no evidence of disease in the spring of 2016.

In august of 2017, Martha relapsed with tumors in her lungs. She went through multiple chemo treatments and radiation, and finally had surgery to remove the tumors. After almost a year of treatments, Martha had no evidence of disease again in the fall of 2018.

While I wasn't the one battling cancer, my family and I were all deeply affected by it. My sister is so strong and brave, just like the countless other kids worldwide who have fought or are fighting cancer.

The St. Baldrick's foundation does so much for childhood cancer research, and is working hard to give children the future they deserve.
