Hi friends! This April, I am planning on shaving my head to raise funds for childhood cancer research!
In 2018 the Cancer Library found that this year, there will be more than 250,000 children diagnosed with some form of cancer. And for those children, the statistics are grim. 18% of them will die within the first 2 years, and another 25% wont make it to their 20th birthday. Research conducted by prominent hospitals like the Mayo clinic, and the National Institute of Health is promising, but there simply isn't enough funding.
On a more personal note, I have been living with a rare autoimmune disease for the last 7 years. And to put it lightly, its been a lot. A journey full of ups and downs. But all those years ago when I was first diagnosed, I wasn't alone. A good friend of mine, Nishant Venishetty, was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma ( a form of pediatric cancer) at the same time. Somehow despite the odds, we both survived several long months in the hospital. The following year, Nishant relapsed and passed away. I was lucky. He was not.
Since then, Nishants family has organized several fundraisers and events to honor his legacy, and to help people like him. I want to do my part. A cancer diagnosis as a child should not be equivalent to a death sentence. So please, if you have any money to spare, do it for them. Active research is the only way to one day find a real lasting cure. Trust me. These kids need the help.
