There has been so much change in my life in the last year as I've started a new job in a new state, but one thing remains constant: my dad's and my participation in St. Baldrick's! Every year since 2009, we have shaved our heads for this incredible cause and after sixteen years of shaving, I have raised over $14,500.
This year, on April 12, my dad and I will again be shaving our heads for year seventeen! My goal for this year is $1,000, and as soon as I reach that goal, I will be dyeing my hair whatever color is chosen for me by my friend's cousin, Ashlyn. In 2020, Ashlyn was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and went through multiple rounds of chemo and surgeries. Now, at age 9, she has been NED (no evidence of disease) for three years, although she's in active treatment to prevent the cancer from returning. I can't wait to see what color she'll chose for me, and I'm excited to see my students' reaction when I show up to school with different colored hair! The earlier I reach my goal, the earlier I'll dye my hair!
Did you know, 1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. won’t survive? For those who do, more than 96% have severe or life-threatening conditions by the time they are 50.
Each shaved head, every dollar donated, creates a ripple effect of progress for kids with cancer.
Your gift will give kids and their families hope, supporting the best research across the country, through the largest charity funder of childhood cancer research grants, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Together, let’s give these kids the lifetime they deserve. Thank you for your support!
