I helped to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Blue Devil Baldies

Something very disturbing happened today and I decided to take action. Family members of mine are friends to a family who lost their 8 year old son, Jacob, to brain cancer this summer. Jacob's family discovered that someone had recently stolen their son's picture and parts of his story, posted it on their Facebook page, and pretended he was still alive to gain comments and likes. The family and friends of this boy were devastated, evident by the flooding of comments today on that page begging them to take down his photo. Fresh wounds were reopened. Very heartbreaking. As fate would have it, my organization, Duke University Physician Assistant Program Class of 2014, had just registered for a local St. Baldrick's Event. This volunteer-driven fundraising event has raised MORE funds for childhood cancer research than ANY other organization besides the U.S. government. Our event will take place April 27th and some members of our class will shave their own heads to show solidarity and support for infants, children, teens and young adults fighting cancer. Today, I have decided that my fund-raising efforts will be in honor of JACOB. Although I myself have never met Jacob or his family, I wanted to show them that through the disrespectful act of one stranger...another stranger was compelled to do something good in HONOR of their son.
