Many of you know my story already, but for those of you who don't, it starts January 27, 2007, when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. To make matters worse, about a week later, my uncle Bruce passed away from leukemia. Coming from such a close family, losing my uncle was particularly jarring.
Over the next few months, I underwent numerous surgeries and chemotherapy, and on May 2 of that year, I was officially given a clean bill of health. Unfortunately, my story with cancer was not over. On that same day, my grandma Rozzie, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for the first of three times. With every diagnosis, she continued to fight, and always remained positive.
Then, on January 27, 2015-eight years to the day after my diagnosis-I got a call from my mother. She could barely speak, other than to say 3 words: "we lost Grandma." My grandma was, is, and always will be my hero. She was the most positive person I've ever known, and I never saw her without a smile on her face, even as she faced cancer again and again.
Because of Uncle Bruce, my own experience, and Grandma Rozzie, I will be shaving my head on March 8 in solidarity with those fighting cancer. I hope many of you will consider donating toward my goal of $2000!
