I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: In Memory of Jerry Hollis

I believe this is my 12 or 13th year with St. Baldrick's. I can't imagine a St. Patty's day without the big head shaving event. I wish there would come a year when we wouldn't need to do these events, but until then I'm in ! With the economy booming lets really blow it out this year with the donations !

It all started out for me as a "cool thing" to do, because I never say no to a good cause.  Then a few years into it we found out that Jillian had pediatric cancer.  At that point it became extremely personal.  When you know the child and the family it affects you feel it rip at your inside.  Thankfully she's been in remission and every time I get the text from her mom to pray for a thumbs up bone scan, I do just that.

This year I lost my friend Jerry Hollis to cancer.  While Jerry isn't a kid, he was a big kid at heart.  He was a strapping 220lb guy who worked on ships 2 years ago.  He was the biggest St. Louis Cardinal fan and no one knew BBQ like him.  When I didn't have BBQ supplies he headed out to ship them to me, even though he was sick and weak.  I asked him if he could be my honoree this year and he said, "absolutely, give me the link so I could donate".  I said, "Jerry, the honoree isn't supposed to donate, he/she just lends their name to the cause".  He said, "Nonsense, I want to help any which way".  We lost him on the 13th.  We have to stop losing people to cancer.
