I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

I’ve answered the call to be a hero! And for the third time I am going to shave my head to live in solidarity with children that have cancer and to raise money for them. Although this is my third time doing it, I am more nervous to shave my head then ever before. I was extremely hesitant this year for I did not have a team to participate with, no one that I know from Iowa is doing it, I’ve already asked all my family and friends for support twice, and for the first time in years I actually love my hair! However, after reading the incredible stories of the children that are fighting or fought cancer and their bravery and innocence and hope through such a difficult experience, I knew I had to do it again. There’s something amazing about putting yourself into someone else’s shoes and taking time out of your busy life to think about someone else’s problems and to actually know what they have to fight and brave every single day. Shaving your head gives you less time to think about what you look like, how your hair looks and what people think of you, and more time to think about others. And this single act of selflessness is one of the most uplifting things I have ever experienced. My fear of giving up my hair and being cold, judged, and misunderstood has been dampened by the bravery and courage of these children that not only have to fight the baldness but also have to fight this awful disease each and every day. Your support also means the world to me! I am giving up my hair and it would mean a lot to me if you could give up a few dollars to help make these children’s lives better and to find a cure for such a heart-wrenching disease.
