Yes it’s true; Logan and I are shaving our head in order to raise money for the St. Balrick’s foundation.
Most of us know someone who is battling or has lost the battle to cancer. I, myself am a survivor of cancer and will be battling with the effects for the rest of my life. What most people don’t know, is that Logan and my future children are now at a 20% increased risk to be diagnosed with cancer, either during childhood or through their adult life. I'd love to steal the line that your donation "may not save my life, but it may save my children's life, It may save someone you love." For anyone who has never heard Jimmy V's speach, please look it up on the internet, it is one of the most moving speachs I have ever heard, and one I had DVR'd so I can listen to it several times a day while I was undergoing treatment.
Here is a little excerpt from Jimmy V's speach during the ESPY awards back in 1993
“I just got one last thing, I urge all of you, all of you, to enjoy your life, the precious moments you have. To spend each day with some laughter and some thought, to get you're emotions going. To be enthusiastic every day and [as] Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Nothing great could be accomplished without enthusiasm" -- to keep your dreams alive in spite of problems whatever you have. The ability to be able to work hard for your dreams to come true, to become a reality.
Now, I look at where I am now and I know what I wanna to do. What I would like to be able to do is to spend whatever time I have left and to give, and maybe some hope to others…… I'll also tell you that five hundred thousand people will die this year of cancer. And I'll also tell you that one in every four will be afflicted with this disease, and yet, somehow, we seem to have put it in a little bit of the background. I want to bring it back on the front table. We need your help. I need your help. We need money for research. It may not save my life. It may save my children's life. It may save someone you love. And it's very important.
"Don't give up, don't ever give up."” ~ Jim Valvano
