You heard it right - I'm shaving my head in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research! For those of you who don't know me well, I am a pediatric/neonatal transport nurse for UNC Hospitals. I pick up sick kids from all over the state of North Carolina and bring them back to Chapel Hill for treatment. Some of those kids I pick up have cancer and are coming to UNC for either a newly diagnosed cancer or for continuing care. One little boy in in particular has touched my heart! Chase was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in December and his treatment was going well. But then in January he got sick and I transported him to UNC Hospital. He got better and was able to go home, but once again is sick and back in the hospital. He is critically ill and in the pediatric intensive care (PICU), but is fighting...and will keep fighting! This is for Chase and his family and all the other little heroes out there! In the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease.
