In August I took a new position at St. Barnabas School. It is a wonderful Southside Irish community steeped in tradition. One such tradition is Barnabas's St. Baldrick's Day: Every year in March, students, staff, parents, and members of the community raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which fights childhood cancer, by shaving their heads/cutting their hair. This tradition started (before my time at the school) when students at St. Barnabas wanted to do something to honor and, later, remember their classmate, Pat, who battled a cancerous brain tumor for several years. If you have about 4 minutes, I invite you to watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPwPxq9FTGg - it's a beautiful tribute to this young man and to the students who rallied around him. The tradition has been going on ever since.
Why am I going into all of this detail about St. Baldrick's Day? Well, after growing my hair out for the past several years, I've decided to cut it for this cause. I will be donating my hair to Children With Hair Loss, and I will be raising money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation through our school event on March 8th...which is where YOU come in.
Please consider supporting the St. Baldrick's Foundation by donating on this page. Every donation, no matter how small, will help me reach my goal of $250. (And remember, I'm the one doing the hard work here - it's not every day you part with 8+ inches of your hair.)
Thank you for your support and consideration!
