I've answered the call to be a hero again! Yes, again. I had an opportunity not many donors get: the chance to meet someone who’s life was directly effected by my actions. It was actually my bone marrow that was a match for 7-year-old Dominic Mott of Sacramento, California who was suffering from leukemia in the summer of 2008. As detailed in this news story in January 2011, I was able to meet Dominic. Dominic is doing well, and we still keep in touch. Our case is currently the source of ongoing study as to why our marrow match was so successful. Because Dominic is bi-racial, and I am not, it is of particular interest that our match grafted in 3-4 weeks instead of the usual 6 months.
I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly to honor Dominic Mott and raise money to find cures.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
