“You should cut and dye your hair and do this for me.” This is what my brother jokingly said one day as he laid in a hospital bed during a chemotherapy treatment. We both laughed it off, and he has probably since forgotten that he ever uttered those words; that moment, however, has been stuck in my memory for the past three years. It is typical of Cody to crack jokes while having radioactive chemicals flowing into his veins. I’m the older sibling; I should be the one who is able to advise and inspire, but whether he knows it or not: that is exactly what Cody has done for me. Being with my brother as he battled Stage IV-B Hodgkin's lymphoma has allowed me to witness the utter strength and innate ability of humans to persevere and accomplish whatever goal they set their minds to.
