I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

The St. Baldrick's event in which I chose to participate occured on the afternoon of March 10.

Lots of locks went scurrying away in the warm March winds as the volunteer shavers took clippers to scalps. Many participants were on their seventh or eighth year shaving anniversaries. Several raised two, four, or even six times what you and I put together. I was a newby on the block who had only spent eight days asking for donations. Out of 149 participants at this event, you guys put us in the top six. I was so glad to represent you all and all the gifts that you have given. As the clippers sang I thought of each of you, and I thought especially of those persons' memories you asked me to honor.

I also thought of Rebecca Simpson, and said a brief prayer for her family. No, Rebecca, it is not over here. Your physical presence is here no longer, but oh, how your spirit continues to inspire people back here you never knew. (If you have not read Rebecca's story you can find it at the link below.)

I promised you pictures, before and after. They are loaded my St. Baldrick's home page at
http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/dtransou

Be careful -- don't hurt your eyes and be sure not to let young children who frighten easily see them.

I truly want to say thank you, my friends. You each mean a lot to me. Whether you are a business partner, a past student, an old class mate, a neighbor, a relative, or like a couple of you, a person I have never met who knew a friend or saw my FB plea, I thank you. We raised over $1475 and there are still some promised funds to come later this week. I am proud of you guys!

I hope that more than just some hair blew away today. Like in Bobby Dylan's old tune, I hope some answers, my friend, were blowin' in the wind. Answers that will come from research you helped fund to conquer kids' cancer.

God bless you all,

David
