Ten years. This March 14th at Rí Rá Atlanta, I will once again take the stage, along with a few hundred other amazing volunteers in an effort to raise more money and awareness for childhood cancer research on behalf of St. Baldrick's Foundation. This will be our 10th Anniversary Event. Ten years doing something I love. The most important thing I do with my life, actually. Ten years of doing something I wish I didn't need to do.
This journey has brought meaning to my life in ways I never thought possible. The courage and hope and spirt shown by kids fighting cancer strengthens and inspires me. In everything I do. These kids show me what REAL strength is about. They show me what hope is about. And they remind me that, in spite of whatever I may be going through at the moment, my life is pretty wonderful.
Through St. Baldricks, I've made so many wonderful friendships and I've seen the good in people. I have seen, first hand, the things we can do when we band together for a cause.
Since 2010, the event I co-organize at Rí Rá Irish Pub has raised nearly $1.3 million dollars for childhood cancer research. Because of the efforts of our amazing "shavees," and volunteers and our barbers American Haircuts there are more doctors treating kids with cancer and finding better treatments and looking for a cure.
Like I said, I wish I didn't have to do this every year. But I will keep doing this until a doctor can tell a parent, "I'm sorry, your child has cancer, but don't worry. We have a cure for that."
I hope you will join us this year! We're hoping our Tenth Anniversary event will be bigger and balder and MORE FUN than ever! With your help, I know it will be! Together... we can conquer kids cancer.
