I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Sawyer

It was three years ago that I attended my first St. Baldrick’s event.  I was there to support my very dear friend, Steve MacNeilage,  that had just lost his 8 year old son, Sawyer, to a brain tumor.  I never got a chance to meet Sawyer but I did see him running across the parking lot one day, blonde locks bouncing, with a huge smile on his face.  Though he was battling cancer, he smiled, he laughed, he touched hearts, and he brought joy to his friends and family.  At the time of the event, I was going through some personal problems and thought my world was crashing down around me.  I remember vividly looking up at the banners and collages that were displayed of all these kids with cancer, some that had lost their hair, some that hadn’t.  The one thing that was the same in every photograph was the big beautiful smiles on these kid’s faces.  This was the most humbling moment of my life thus far.  These kid’s were smiling and they have cancer.  My friend had just lost his son.  What in my life is that bad that I should be walking around in a funk?   In one word, nothing. So after punking out for the past couple events, I’ve decided to “Go Bald Early”!
