**Why do I shave?**
To raise money for childhood cancer research
To raise awareness about childhood cancer
To encourage those children whose lives have been touched by cancer
I first heard about St. Baldricks back in 2011 through chalking at the University of Virginia (students are allowed to advertise events/campaigns by writing with chalk on the sidewalks). At a first glance, I thought the slogan was neat: Be brave. Go Bald. I acknowledged that I was already engaged in cancer awareness through Locks of Love, but when one of my peers, Anh, sent a link around to her St. Baldrick's profile, her story inspired me. More so, I was inspired by her willingness to go bald - as a girl - for cancer. It was in March 2012 when I shaved my hair for the first time for the children of St. Baldrick's (https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/515512/2012).
It is with nerves and with excitement that I write this statement today, as a returning shavee. As for what YOU can do, you can join me! I'd love nothing more than to have actual support in this cause. With friends and family who'll be by my side, it'll be that much more encouraging - not just for me, but for those children who ARE affected. Let us lead by example, to show them that they are not alone.
There is also a link to donate to those families affected by cancer. I've set my goal to $350, but who knows what'll happen. Either way, thank you for taking the time to read my page. Thank you for taking the time to consider making a difference, be it by actually shaving your head with me :) or by making a financial contribution.
Yours truly,
Ashley
