I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Luke's Syracuse Army

Most of my posts on the book are pics of my family and friends or info about the next gig I have coming up. It's not often that I talk about my day job as an Occupational Therapist (and no, in case your wondering, I don't help people find jobs). Over the past 17 years as an OT, I've been blessed to meet some wonderful kids and grown ups--which brings me to the reason for my post today.

My buddy Jack B.--A kid with a fantastic imagination, an artist who loves to draw and create- one of my many favorite kids out in Marcellus- was diagnosed with leukemia. Since I was working at Crouse during his treatment, I got to spend time with him and his fabulous mom over my lunch breaks when he was up for it. What a brave, patient, resilient child....like so many other kids with cancer.

No one should have to go through that. We have to try to do more. Anyone that can navigate the World Wide Web can see childhood cancer research funding is limited. So this year is going to be the year of "Bald Maureen". My 8 year old son Matthew and some of the guys in Mere Mortals are doing it with me. Matthew and I will be joining Luke's Army. With a scheduling issue on our end, we can't make the event down at Kitty Hoynes (if you are thinking about shaving, you should sign up for this event because it is awesome). We decided since we play together, we might as well shave together too, at one of our gigs- on April 21 at Coleman's.

I am shaving for six children---

In honor of my buddy Jack Brumfield.

In honor of Charlie Poole, whose mom Lynda was one my first mentors and is an awesome OT.

In memory of my friend Jenee's beautiful and brave daughter, Sophie.

In honor of McKenna Kelly and Luke Ungerer, both part of the Westhill family.

In memory of Griffin Engle from the Mere Mortals Community.

There are so many people in our community doing good things so no pressure BUT if you feel like I feel--- like we need less kids with cancer in this world--- please consider donating to Matthew or my page this year.

And let's keep our fingers crossed that I don't have a lumpy head once my hair is gone.

Peace and love people. Peace and love.

I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.

Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
