I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Coyote Ridge Elementary

I'm shaving my head on March 28th, 2019, to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

My Story:

On January 17, 2015, I went to the hospital to visit my dear friend, Ali’s, daughter, Avelin, who had just been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (a/k/a ALL) a few days prior. While I was there I was trying hard to think of something I could do for her and her family that would make a difference. All of a sudden I recalled my son, Kobi, who had registered for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation head-shaving events for the past couple of years and he had shaved his head bald while fundraising for childhood cancer research. Right then I said I was going to shave my head in Avelin’s honor at the next local head-shaving event. That was a big step but nothing compared to what Avelin had already gone through and what was to come during treatment. Two days later I decided to talk to my friend, Jill Duffy, who I had known from Boy Scouts with my son. Jill was the one who had spearheaded taking a group of kids from our school to our local mall to get their heads shaved for a St. Baldrick’s event. Jill and I decided we would both not only shave our heads (this would have been Jill’s second time shaving her head) but we would host an event in our community closer to home. Our first event took place on March 20, 2015, at Coyote Ridge Elementary School. This year (2019), Jill and I are hosting our 5th Annual St. Baldrick’s ‘Battle of the Bald’ head-shaving event for the West Roseville Community. We have raised over $128,000 in the past 4 years for the researchers who work tirelessly to find a cure for childhood cancer. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s generosity, graciousness for shaving heads and volunteering their time and talents.
