On November 19, 2010 Matthew was finally diagnosed with a rare unnamed brain cancer after 2 1/2 years of mysterious symptoms including seizures, ataxia, and learning and behavioral issues. He had 3 months of oral chemo at home and one IV treatment. The chemo did nothing to his cancer and on March 1, 2011 we made a decision that no parent should EVER have to make. After talking to Matt and explaining what was happening, we said no more treatments. We wanted whatever time we had left to be the best we could make it. After months of suffering and pain, including excruciating headaches, on June 16, 2012 Matthew earned his angel wings. We miss his bright and loving personality every single day. Matt's motto was Love Everyone and he did this every day that he was here. No matter how he felt, he was always concerned about the other person. When Matthew passed, we donated his brain for research in the hopes that they could find out more about this cancer. Our hope is that one day no parent will lose their child to cancer.
