My name is Brock Nelson and in the last 15 years I've had 15 haircuts. When I was a kid, my dad and one his friends found St. Baldricks and decided to take part. At 7, I decided I wanted to join them. Every year I shave my hair in the middle of March, and I don't touch it till I shave it again.
I shave my hair because I don't know how to cure cancer. So instead my goal is to raise awareness and money for children's cancer research. You may ask, what does going bald do? Well there is little more surprising then someone suddenly having no hair. I use the attention and questions and platform shaving my hair gives me, to ask people like you for help.
Children don't deserve to be diagnosed with cancer, but they get diagnosed anyway. 1 in 5 children diagnosed won't survive to adult hood. 96% of the children who do will have a life treating condition by 50 as a result of the cancer and treatment.
The cure to cancer has been worked towards since humanity figured out it had been a problem, and amazing scientists have devoted their lives to trying to cure it. But cancer in adults isn't the same as cancer in children. The treatments aren't the same, the results aren't the same. When it comes to helping children with their cancer diagnoses, it requires different tools, different studies and just as much money as cancer testing needs for adults.
If you've read to this point, you've already done more than I could hope for, but I've got 3 questions. Are you attached to your hair? St. Baldricks is always looking for more people who can spread the message. Are you in a position to donate? Every penny counts when childrens lives are on the line, no donation is too small. Finally, do you have any more time to help spread my message? Share this page, tell some friends, ask coworkers, every bit of distance St. Baldricks gets is another step towards saving children from cancer.
Every dollar donated goes towards helping children with cancer get treatment, and funding research into improved treatment, as well as the hope that cancer is cured forever.
