I'm shaving my head! Shaving it in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment, while raising critical funds for childhood cancer research.
My original goal has been blown out of the proverbial water, mostly by the very generous donation of one family, so I have dramatically increased my goal from the original $1200 to $3500. Maybe we can come somewhere close to that.
I first heard about St. Baldricks 2 or 3 years ago, and thought of participating, but chickened out. I recently did some research on St. Baldricks and found that they are efficient (75% of funds raised goes to research programs, 20% to fund raising and 5% to administration) and are a Better Business Bureau accredited charity. Given that, and since this is a very good cause, I have summoned up some courage this year and commited to be shaved. The big shaving will occur On March 27th, at Trinity Hall in Mockingbird Station in Dallas. Since there are 60 some odd shavees, they have broken the shavings up into 1 hour periods. I requested to be shaved between 11 and 12 noon. All are welcome to come and watch. The person present who has made the largest donation will get to take the first swipe of the shaver on my head. If you don't have time, I will be posting my after photo, along with the current before photo, on this Web page.
Please make a donation on my head, my soon to be bald head, by clicking on "Make A Donation" or donate by mail or phone by following the instructions on the site.
In the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. Please make a donation on my behalf to support childhood cancer research so that all children diagnosed with cancer will have a better chance for a cure.
Please feel free to spread the word about this event anyone, friend, family or foe, who you think might be interested in supporting this cause.
