Caroline was a healthy teen -- until suddenly she wasn't. After a month of stomach pains and two weeks of progressively worsening bruising, she was diagnosed with a rare, very aggressive childhood cancer -- an extra-renal malignant rhabdoid tumor. Her treatment was intense: chemo, surgery, more chemo, another surgery because of new tumor growth, continued chemo, and radiation. This aggressive cancer continued to grow through all of this, and Caroline was then approved to start targeted therapy. She died seven months after her diagnosis.
Research supported by St. Baldrick's can improve treatment options for all kinds of childhood cancers, especially rare cancers like Caroline's that do not have as many specific foundations.
Please consider honoring Caroline's memory and supporting this organization -- and her dad and other friends as they shave their heads in March.
