My Story

In October, 2006, Daniel had the symptoms of what we thought was a stomach virus. We were sure he picked up something from a town-wide Halloween party (he was a fabulous Curious George) where he shared bowls of candy shared with 50 other kids. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and three days later doctors discovered that our 2 1/2 year-old little boy was suffering from the pain of a softball-sized Wilms tumor on his left kidney. The kidney and the tumor were removed almost immediately in a 9 1/2 hour surgery, and Daniel began chemotherapy a little over a week later. It has been a difficult winter but he is our Superman, handling his treatments with super strength and determination. His last treatment is on March 28th with ultrasounds and x-rays scheduled every 3 months, then every 6 months for the next 4 years. Super Daniel Carson loves trains, baseball, the Cars movie and eating cinnamon twists from Starbucks. He is full of joy and wonder for the world around him and spent last summer collecting worms and bugs with his big sister Olivia. This summer he plans to eat Fenway franks and watch Manny Ramirez hit a home run over the Green Monster. He loves his family and his friends and gives the tightest, sweetest little hugs. He is a very special little boy and thanks everyone who is working towards a cure for childhood cancer.
