My Story

Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. I was an all around happy, energetic, life loving toddler that showed no signs of Leukemia except for bruising on my legs that my parents just thought was me being the crazy boy I am! After getting Covid then human metapneumo virus in the same week, I began having difficulty breathing which lead my mom to take me to the ER 4 times in one week to have me treated. Being sent home the first 3 times with little to no answers and still having trouble breathing, as the week went on, she began to continue to worry about my health and took me back a 4th time with even more concern. The emergency room ended up doing some blood work for WBC results to come back with being 103,000 and an abnormally low hemoglobin and platelet count. Hearing the word “cancer”from the doctors, my mom squeezed me tighter and tighter as I began to grow wet with her tears falling on my head. After 4 days of having a sleepless sleepover at CHOP, we finally received my diagnosis of AML and my treatment began on day 5. I’m now on day 5 of my first round of chemotherapy and I am powering through and moving in the right direction! My spirits are high and I’m so much braver than I ever thought I could be. My mom and dad call me Super Cal! I’m even helping the nurses scan my bracelet and medication, listen to my heart and belly, and make sure to give high fives and yell “ I did it!” After every little thing I accomplish! My motto before every chemo dose is “I am super, I am brave, I am strong, and I am not scared! I am super Cal!”
