In some way, shape or form, everyone is affected by childhood cancer. As a class we have united around the story of one of our own member’s brother, Luke LaPray. Luke was a joyful, energetic teenager ready to go and conquer the world. However, at 10 years old he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. After a long battle, he passed away this past March. This is a story familiar to too many people. Aid us in our effort to raise awareness and support for children like Luke.
The Maverick Marathon is a 200 mile chain marathon hosted by The Texas Wrangler Mavericks class of Spring ‘16. We will kick off our three-day journey in Dallas on August 24, 2016 and journey south on the road to Austin. Each member of our 13-man class will run a minimum of 30 miles until we reach north Austin. The final stretch of the run will be open to anyone who wants to join, symbolizing a coming together to combat childhood cancer. The 3-day run will end at the base of the historic University of Texas tower.
The Texas Wranglers are a group of young men on UT’s campus who pride themselves on their leadership, academics, athletic ability, and community service. Every semester the new class of Mavericks puts together a service event for a foundation or cause that they are passionate about.
