Thank you for taking the time to visit our website! I encourage you to join us, either on our team or start your own, as we pledge to shave our heads to raise money for pediatric cancer research. If you don't want to shave, please consider making a donation or volunteering to help at our event, hosted by El Rancho Grande on Cin-Day Rd (go show them some love!!).
Mark your calendars for 4 pm on May 31, and plan to come by to (a) laugh at me (Miriam) and (b) show them some love for hosting. We'll enjoy happy hour on the patio, some of us balder than others!!
By the ago of 20, 1 in 300 American children will be diagnosed with some form of cancer. They all deserve a chance at a long, healthy life, free from not only cancer, but also from the many debilitating side effects that accompany the harsh treatments (surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy) they undergo. These all affect growing bodies and developing minds, and, consequently, survivors of pediatric cancer are at risk of developing treatment-related late effects to any area of the body including the heart, reproductive system, respiratory system, eyes, hearing, endocrine system, teeth and bones as well as cognitive and emotional function. In addition, they are greater risk to develop secondary cancers related to chemotherapy drugs and/or radiation used to treat their first cancer. We can, we MUST, do better, and research is the key to the CURE.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. That being said, the U.S. Government's National Cancer Institute only allocates 3% of its money to pediatric cancer. Get involved and you'll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
