2013 46 Mommas Team Hosts St. Baldrick’s Foundation Head-Shaving Event to Support Childhood Cancer Research

Mommas from Across the U.S. and Canada to Converge in San Antonio June 30 to Get Bald!

LOS ANGELES (June 4, 2013) — The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven and donor-centered charity dedicated to funding childhood cancer research, announces the fourth annual St. Baldrick’s 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave event taking place at the Arneson River Theatre in San Antonio, Texas, on June 30 from 12-4 p.m. The 46 Mommas represent the reality that each weekday, on average, 46 families in the United States are told that their child has cancer.

In 2010, the inaugural team took the name 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave and established a fundraising goal of $1 million for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Each year, a new class of 46 Mommas is inducted into the cause to empower and engage mothers of children with cancer. Since the team’s first St. Baldrick’s signature head-shaving event in Los Angeles, the 46 Mommas have traveled to Washington, D.C., in 2011, then back to Los Angeles in 2012, and this year the Mommas are excited to head south to San Antonio to shave their heads in solidarity with all kids affected by cancer and celebrate surpassing the $1 million fundraising goal! To date, the class of 2013, which includes five Canadian Mommas, has raised more than $118,000 to add to this impressive total.

“We are so proud of the outstanding commitment and fundraising accomplishments of all 46 Mommas team members,” says Kathleen Ruddy, chief executive officer for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. “Once again the 46 Mommas will trek from near and far as a united force against this dreaded disease. Since the team’s inception, these brave Mommas have provided hope to so many across the nation and around the world. We are humbled by their incredible efforts and unwavering support of the St. Baldrick’s mission to Conquer Childhood Cancers.”

The 46 Mommas want to express their gratitude to this year’s many sponsors, including: Holiday Inn Riverwalk, the Hilton Palacio del Rio, Studio J Salon and Spa, the Timothy Pauxtis Foundation, Dogeared Jewels and Gifts and the MaxLove Project. Special thanks goes to Votre Vu, a luxury skin care company offering the finest French-made skin care formulations and handcrafted cosmetics, which has once again partnered with the 46 Mommas this year, donating $1 of every product sold from their French Accents cosmetics line to the Mommas’ fundraising campaign.

No matter where they shave, BALD MOMS ROCK! What about grandparents, colleagues, a sports team or friends? Everyone can make a difference. About the 46 Mommas

The 46 Mommas represent all mothers who make the cancer journey with their child. Our annual teams are comprised of women from across the U.S. and Canada, with different backgrounds, beliefs and lifestyles, but there is one thing that they have in common – childhood cancer.

In 2010, our inaugural team took the name 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave and established a fundraising goal of $1 million for The St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Each year, a new class of 46 Mommas is inducted into the cause to empower and engage mothers of children with cancer.

Through increasing awareness of childhood cancer and raising funds for childhood cancer research by shaving our heads, we hope to one day be a group that no longer needs to exist.
