We have answered the call to be heroes! We've teamed up to have our heads and/or beards shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. There is one catch, the event isn't until 05/19/12 and we've committed to letting our hair and/or beards grow out until that time. Please support our Portland/Vancouver St. Baldrick's event by shaving and help us grow it to be the largest event in the world. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. 82% of every dollar raised goes directly to the research. And it makes a difference: the cure rate for the most common childhood cancer (which accounts for ~1/3 of all childhood cancers) was 3% in the 1950s but is currently at ~90%! Think about that. It's the research. The kids that have cancer do not have the choice to be bald...but we do, and we can make a difference! Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when we ask for your support, we're really asking you to support these kids. Thank you! If you'd like to make a charitable donation please click "Make a Donation" to give online, or donate by phone or mail. If your heart pulls on you to get involved without shaving your head and/or beard you can simply support the event as a volunteer. Whether you're shaving or volunteering, select 'Participate With This Team' on the left. Thank you in advance for sharing the necessary time and resources needed to fight childhood cancers! Remember, it's only hair, but it means so much!
