This journey started out because I first loved, I lost them to this dreaded CANCER, I decided to do something. The first year I raised almost $1300.00 to support St. Baldrick's. After I was shaved my son said, "Do you think they would let me shave?" They shaved my son. My husband said, "Do you think they would let me shave?" They shaved him. We looked at my daughter who said," hell no" as did my dear friend. When I returned to work Alesia Thomas (a co worker) approached me and said, " If you do it next year I will join you." My heart swelled as did my eyes. In 2012 I was searching for an event to join, in the midst of my searching another Diana Nichols (co-worker) approached me and said, "Letitia do you think I could join your team?" I almost couldn't speak, "Hell yes, join us and we will do it together." One Ellen Dederich (co-worker) approached me in private struggling with the idea and expressing many different feelings regarding her thought process. She joined our team and Alesia gave us our name "Beautiful Baldies". We all want to thank you for your support and guidance. Erie Neighborhood House has been so supportive as they put us on the web site and talked about it during two staff meetings not to mention the executive director who wore a lavender wig to support us. The administration who made allowances for us to take photos and time out to shave. We have been truely Blessed. I also believe it is important to mention that after an all agency meeting I had a conversation with four men in another department who have decided to shave next year. I will not mention their names you will have to wait and see what is to come.
One small contribution has grown into such a powerful united, supportive effort and no one saw this coming least of all me. As I sit here typing this out my heart is so full and my eyes are swelling and I feel a surge of energy knowing we did this together and that is the answer to any question we may be faced with in our life. TOGETHER! WE STAND TOGETHER.
