It's time for Andrew's Army to mount up to help fight childhood cancer. We will be shaving our heads ( whether you go completely bald to level 0 or keep some hair...it's up to you)....at the St. Baldricks event in Rancho Santa Margarita on April 1st. It's always a blast, with live music and fun. I want to encourage everyone to join our team....last year we had dads, and even my sister cut her long hair really short (I believe girls can cut pony tails that are 7inches or longer). If you dont want to cut your hair, you can still support us with a donation, every bit helps!! Some reasons to help: * Pediatric cancer is the #1 disease killing children * 1 out of every 300 children will be diagnosed with cancer by age 20 * increased survivorship is not because of improved treatments, it's because of harsher treatments. Children have not had a new drug in over 20 years, and since we dont have the research or targeted treatments that adults get, they just give more chemos, for much longer period of time. This results in a lot of nasty side effects, many of them life threatening and debilitating. Some of you know I keep my "med pack" with me at all times. I have to keep pills and a shot with me because of damage done from my cancer treatment. I also have a lot of pain in my legs and hands, its hard to tie my shoes and at night my legs hurt a lot from the walking I do during the day. This is all damage from the drugs that helped me survive. This will be my 9th year participating with St. Baldricks, and in 2010 I was "knighted" in to the "Knights of the Round Table". The first few years I was already bald from treatment, but I was an "honored kid"...me and my friend John Taggart participated together at his Dads fire station. John is now in heaven, but I think of him when I do St. Baldricks, and he is one of the kids we honor. I also honor my friend Zoe, she is still fighting her cancer, and she is super spunky and fun. They dont have a cure for her cancer, so it is important that we keep raising money for research. Im honoring Timmaree....our moms were friends when they were kids, and after a tough fight, Timmaree is in heaven now too. I dont have their pictures up, but Diana is my friend that went to heaven about a year ago....we do this for Diana, and we do this for my friend Zach. Zach has cancer in his leg, and is having a really rough time....stay strong Zach, we are doing this for you, and with every donation we pray for a cure!! Get better buddy!! I hope you will join Andrew's Army, and please feel free to invite your friends!
