Celebrating 25 Years

St. Baldrick’s started as a grassroots effort 25 years ago, driven by people who believe in helping kids with cancer.

National Partner

Towers Watson

Unity is a common theme this year as our Philadelphia, Chicago and Hartford offices have rallied together to “get buzzed” – shaving their heads for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation – a global charity that raises money to fund childhood cancer research. In Chicago, the office will be hosting their third annual in-office event on March 5. The roots of Chicago’s involvement run deep as Tom Leonhardt is one of the charity’s founding board members. Tom led the original events in Chicago, at the request of his friend and co-founder John Bender, and now there are hundreds of events in the Chicago area. Frank DiLeonardi is a supporter and past shavee who today, keeps his head shaved as a solidarity statement for all the kids impacted by childhood cancer -- and now has a fun story that he enjoys sharing with clients and friends. For the past five years, Philadelphia has participated at a local pub. This year, the Philadelphia office will host their first in-office event on March 5 in an effort to maximize our momentum as Towers Watson. Recently, the Philadelphia office received the good news that Tim Kenny (SBF co-founder and Chair) will be attending their event! The team has eight "first-time" shavees participating, including Bruce Fell (Americas P/C Sales & Practice Development Leader) Frank Giampietro (Philadelphia Managing Consultant), and their lone female shavee, Tamara O-Brien, a cancer survivor who is thankful for an opportunity to give back. Tom McIntyre heads up the Hartford team. He was the lone participant from that office last year, but this year has recruited a team of six so far, including two women! Tom and his team will be participating at an event organized by Porter Dowling, VJ Dowling's 15 year-old son. In 2009, the event raised over $500,000, making it the top event worldwide! Together, these offices have brought to life the spirit of collaboration -- sharing, creating, and working toward making an impact on a global scale. Even if you're not in one of these offices, there's still a lot you can do to help the cause: Be bold and go bald! There's still time for you to be a shavee or encourage someone else to shave for the cause! Spread the word! Show your support by posting a link of our team page on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. Let's encourage our family and friends to raise money for kids with cancer. It only takes a minute to donate and make a difference! Eat, drink, and be ... generous! See what all the buzz is about -- stop by one of the three planned events and cheer on our shavees! Alternatively, if you are unable to attend one of the events, please consider donating to one of our shavees. Relive the fun of past years’ events: http://www.flickr.com/photos/47964868@N03/ There's still time for you to be a shavee or encourage someone else to shave for the cause! After all the fun is over, the real winners will be the children who will have a better chance at finding a cure. Thanks to our associates who have made a truly unified effort to help make this happen.
